The Ideal Statesman in Afdal al-Din Kāshānī’s Political Theory

This study analyzes the characteristics of the ideal state administrator according to the political thought of Afdal al-Dīn Kāshānī, a philosopher with original ideas in the field of philosophy. Kāshānī articulated his ideas on the state administrator as a recommendation to the state administrator of his time. Although there are some original aspects of his ideas, they resemble the theories of the ideal statesman in general. The research focuses on the premise that for a head of state, esteemed at the highest rank; to succeed in governance, they must first discipline their own selves, adhere to moral principles, and embody wisdom. The study highlights the contributions of lesser known Muslim philosophers who have produced unique ideas. Its main goal is to contribute to literature by analyzing the political views of a philosopher who has been largely overlooked in the past. The study involves examining the philosopher's political and ethical works, consulting the views of other philosophers and thinkers, and employes document analysis as a qualitative research technique. One of the study's key findings is that a state ruler should possess strong character, competence, knowledge, and moral virtues to effectively govern.

Bu çalışmada, felsefî alanda özgün düşünceleri olan Efdalüddîn Kâşânî’nin siyaset düşüncesinde, ideal devlet yöneticisinde olması gereken özellikler incelenmiştir. Kâşânî devlet yöneticisi hakkındaki düşüncesini, yaşadığı dönemin devlet yöneticisine tavsiye amaçlı olarak kaleme almıştır. Savunduğu fikirlerde özgünlükler olmakla genel anlamda ideal devlet adamı teorileriyle benzerlik göstermektedir. Araştırma, çok yüksek bir mertebede görülen devlet başkanının yönetimde başarılı olabilmesi için önce nefsini ıslah etmesi, ahlâkî kurallara riayet etmesi ve bilge olması gerektiği konusu çerçevesinde şekillenmiştir. Bu çalışma, İslâm felsefesinde bilinen filozoflar dışında isimleri öne çıkmamış filozofların da olduğunu ve bu filozofların özgün düşünceler geliştirdiklerini gösterme anlamında önem arz etmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı, daha önce düşüncelerine pek değinilmemiş bir filozofun özgün siyasî görüşlerini inceleyerek literatüre mütevazı bir katkı sağlamaktır. Çalışma filozofun siyasî ve ahlâkî eserleri bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada konuyla ilgili diğer filozof ve düşünürlerin görüşlerine başvurulmuş, nitel araştırma teknikleri kapsamında doküman analizi uygulamasından faydalanılmıştır. Çalışmada; devlet yöneticisinin, zayıf karakterde, beceriksiz, cahil ve ahlâkî erdemlerden yoksun olmaması gerektiği ulaşılan bulgular arasında yer almaktadır.
