The Culture of Coexistence in Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge (RCMK) Curricula: A Focus on the 2010 and 2018 RCMK Curricula
Abstract
Globalization has led to changes in the lives of individuals and societies. As a result, the experience of coexistence among different cultures sharing the same environment has made it necessary to prioritize values that support living together, and these values should be thought in schools. In this context, one of the aims of the study is to reveal the contribution of the formal religious education program to the culture of living together. The study looks for answers to questions such as the nature of differences in the RCMK curricula and their effects in the learning outcomes. To achieve that goal, the relevant curricula were examined descriptively through document review, and the obtained data were interpreted. The study at hand employs qualitative research methods and was designed based on the relationships between themes and codes. As a result of the study, it was seen that there were achievements, contents and activities that supported the culture of coexistence in the 2010 and 2018 curricula. In particular, different interpretations within the Islamic religion were emphasized as a richness. However, it was understood that there were some differences in the conceptual framework supporting the culture of living together in the 2010 and 2018 RCMK curricula.
