The Phenomenon of Rasm al-Mushaf in the Science of Qirāʾāt: Harrāz’s Manzūm Mawrid al-Zam’ān

The term ‘Rasm al-Mushaf’ or ‘al-Rasm al-`Uthmānī’ refers to the orthography used in writing the Qurʾān, as established in the Mushafs sent by Caliph `Uthmān to the Islamic centres. The specific orthography of the Mushafs that were scribed during the time of Caliph `Uthmān was determined and recorded by the scholars under the name of ‘Rasm al-Mushaf’ or ‘al-Rasm al-`Uthmānī’ and has been passed down to the present day in this way. While some modifications were made over time to accommodate evolving requirements, the fundamental spelling convention remained intact. The orthographic characteristics of the ‘Uthmānic Muṣḥaf were preserved based on its original form, with the science of Qur'anic recitation (qirāʾāt) playing a significant role in this process. This article examines the work Mawrid al-zam’ān by Muhammad b. Muhammad al-Kharrāz (d. 728/1318), which holds significant importance in studies on Rasm al-Mushaf. In this respect, this study aims to determine the place of Kharrāz and his poem in the literature. In addition, in this study, the method of the poem, the subjects it deals with and its place in the orthography of the Mushaf have been analyzed through a prominent commentary. In the study, firstly, the literature related to the field was referred to as well as information on issues such as Rasm al-Mushaf and the binding nature of the Mushaf. Afterwards, the sources used in the poetic work titled Mawrid al- zam'ān were mentioned and content analysis was made about the language and expression features of the work. In this context, it has been tried to determine what makes the relevant work of al-Kharrāz valuable and distinguishes it from others. It is evident that al-Kharrāz's work is an important one in terms of conveying the information contained in the main works on the orthography of the Mushaf such as al-Muqni', al-Tabyīn, and al-Aqīla. As a result, it is also seen that the work contributes to the literature on the orthography of the Mushaf, since the issues of Rasm al-Mushaf and Zabt al-Mushaf are given together.

Kur’an’ın harf ve kelimelerinin Hz. Osman’ın İslâm merkezlerine gönderdiği Mushafların imlâsına muvafık olarak yazılması “Resmü’l-Mushaf” veya “Resmü’l-Osmânî” tabiriyle ifade edilmiştir. Hz. Osman zamanında istinsah edilen Mushafların kendine mahsus imlâ keyfiyeti ulema tarafından “Resmü’l-Mushaf” veya “Resmü’l-Osmânî” adıyla tespit edilip kayda geçirilmiş ve günümüze kadar bu şekilde intikal etmiştir. İhtiyaca bağlı olarak zaman içinde birtakım ilaveler yapılsa da söz konusu imlâ öz itibarıyla muhafaza edilmiştir. Sonraki dönemlerde Mushaf yazımında Hz. Osman tarafından çoğaltılan Mushaf-ı Osmânî’nin imlâ keyfiyetinin esas alınıp muhafaza edilmesinde kıraat ilminin de önemli rolü olmuştur. Bu makalede Resmü’l-Mushaf’a dair yapılan çalışmalar arasında önemi haiz Muhammed b. Muhammed el-Harrâz’ın (ö. 728/1318) Mevridü’z-zam’ân adlı eseri incelenmiştir. Bu yönüyle çalışmada, Harrâz’ın alanla alakalı manzumesinin literatürdeki yerinin tespiti amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmada, manzumenin metodu, ele aldığı konular ve Mushaf imlasındaki yerini, öne çıkan bir şerh üzerinden tahlil yöntemi tercih edilmiştir. Çalışmada öncelikle Resmü’l-Mushaf, Mushafın bağlayıcılığı gibi konulara ilişkin bilgilerin yanı sıra alanla alakalı literatüre işaret edilmiştir. Sonrasında Mevridü’z-zam’ân adlı manzum eserin öncelikle kullandığı kaynaklara değinilmiş, eserin dil ve anlatım özellikleri hakkında içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, makalenin konusunu teşkil eden Harrâz’ın ilgili çalışmasını değerli kılan ve diğerlerinden ayıran hususlar tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Harrâz’ın eserinin el-Mukni’, et-Tebyîn, el-Akîle gibi Mushafın imlâ keyfiyeti hususunda başat eserlerde yer alan malumatın derli toplu aktarılması noktasında önemli bir çalışma olduğu müşahede edilmiştir. Netice itibarıyla Resmü’l-Mushaf ve zabtu’l-Mushafa dair hususların bir arada verilmesi sebebiyle eserin Mushaf imlâsı literatürüne nitelikli bir katkıda bulunduğu da tespit edilmiştir.
