Şeyhülislâm ‘Alâeddin el-‘Arabî’nin ‘Asr Sûresi Tefsiri ve Metodu

Religious sciences and scholars were prominent in the Ottoman Empire’s hierarchical structure. For this reason, after conquering Istanbul, Sultan Mehmed Khan established the “Ayaṣofya” and “Sahn-i Seman” school, where ‘Aladdin al-‘Arabī (d. 901/1496) was one of the prominent teachers. al-‘Arabī produced a large body of work in the fields of exegesis, jurisprudence, and theology. He was particularly well-versed in the field of exegesis. Moreover, many of al-Ἁrabî’s work remain as manuscripts yet to be explored. His scholastic journey culminated in his appointment as Shaykh al-Islam (Grand Mufti) by Sultan Bayezid II, three years before al-‘Arabī’s death. Generally speaking, ‘Aladdin al-‘Arabī was highlighted because of his position as Shaykh al-Islam; the highest rank in the religious hierarchy within the Ottoman Empire. In this study, we try to illustrate al-‘Arabī’s methodology in his treatise on the exegesis of Surah Al-‘Asr, where he incorporates linguistic, mystical, and homiletic interpretations in his commentary. In addition, we refer to ‘Aladdin’s works, many of which are unpublished manuscripts that have not been examined or studied yet. Therefore, in this study, a comparison was made between the commentators as Zamakhsharī (d. 538/1144), Bayḍāwī (d. 685/1286), Rāzī (d. 606/1210), Ebussuud Efendi (d. 982/1574), who gave importance to Arabic and Kalam especially in their commentaries and Ἁlâeddin el-Ἁrabî.

Osmanlı Devleti’nde ilim ve âlimler yüksek bir mevkiye sahipti. Bu sebeple Fatih Sultan Mehmet Ḫan (ö. 886/1481) İstanbul’u fethettiğinde Sahn-ı Semân medresesini inşa etmiştir. Burada meşhur birçok müderris ders vermiştir. Bu müderrislerden biri de tefsir, fıkıh ve kelâma dair telif, şerh vb. birçok ilmî eser kaleme almış, özellikle tefsir ilminde engin bir birikime sahip Molla Alâeddin el-Arabî’dir (ö. 901/1496). Kendisinin kütüphanelerde yazma eserler arasında bekleyen birçok şerh ve haşiye türündeki eserlerine ilaveten “Asr Sûresi”ne dair müstakil bir sûre tefsiri vardır. Arabî’nin ilimle dolu hayatı, Sultan II. Bâyezid’in (ö. 918/1512) kendisine Şeyḫülislâm ve Müftilenâm payelerini vermesinden üç sene sonra miladî 1496 senesinde son bulmuştur. Bu incelememizde, bu çok yönlü âlimin, genel olarak ilmî mirasına ışık tutulmuştur. Özel olarak ise luğavî, işârî ve va‘zî tefsir metotlarını birlikte kullandığı “Ἁsr Sûresi Tefsiri” adlı eserinde takip ettiği metodu ortaya konulmuştur. Bu çalışmada özellikle tefsirlerinde Arapça ve Kelâm konularına ağırlık veren Zemahşerî (ö. 538/1144), Beyzâvî (ö. 685/1286), Râzî (ö. 606/1210), Ebüssuûd Efendi (ö. 982/1574) gibi müfessirlerle Alâeddin el-Arabî arasında mukayeseye yer verilmiştir.
