Zihin Felsefesi Bağlamında Ruh Kavramının Bilinç Kavramına Dönüşümü

Consciousness stands as one of the fundamental and challenging problems of modern times. Similar things can be said within the concept of the mind, which we believe underlies consciousness. This problem, which has become one of the main areas of focus for contemporary philosophers and neuroscientists, has been examined within the framework of the transformation from the concept of the mind to the concept of consciousness. This transformation has been made possible by humanity’s efforts to understand and explain itself and the universe. This sense-making process is directly related to the concepts of the mind and consciousness. Throughout history, humans have been engaged in a transcendent search. The soul is the first step of this search, and consciousness is the final step. Humans have undergone a significant transformation from an agrarian society to a cybernetic society. In agrarian societies, the soul was central in a religious sense, while in cybernetic societies, consciousness has taken a central position in a scientific sense. In this article, the concepts of the mind and consciousness are described in terms of their historical development and the semantic transformations they have undergone over time to demonstrate the ongoing transformation. The historical, philosophical, and scientific foundations for the use of the term “consciousness” instead of the term “soul” are explained. Furthermore, the article discusses the issue of the increasing use of the term “consciousness” instead of “soul” as the scientific worldview expanded.

Bilinç, modern zamanların en temel ve zor problemleri arasında yer alır. Bilince kaynaklık ettiğini düşündüğümüz ruh kavramı için de benzer şeyleri söylemek mümkündür. Çalışmada günümüz filozof ve nörobilimcilerinin ana uğraş alanlarından biri haline gelen bu problem, ruh kavramından bilinç kavramına doğru gerçekleşen dönüşüm çerçevesinde incelendi. Bu dönüşümün gerçekleşmesi insanın kendini ve evreni anlamaya ve açıklamaya çalışmasıyla mümkün olabilmiştir. Bu anlamlandırma ruh ve bilinç ile doğrudan ilgilidir. İnsan, varoluş tarihi boyunca doğaötesi bir arayışın içinde olmuştur. Bu arayışın birinci basamağında ruh, son basamağında ise bilinç vardır. İnsan, tarım toplumundan sibernetik topluma doğru büyük bir dönüşüm yaşamıştır. Tarım toplumunda, dini anlamda ruhu merkeze alan insan, sibernetik toplumda bilimsel anlamda bilinci merkeze almıştır. Makalede, yaşanan dönüşümü göstermek açısından ruh ve bilinç kavramları hem tarihi gelişim süreçleri itibariyle hem de zaman içinde geçirdikleri anlam dönüşümü açısından tasvir edildi. Makalede ruh sözcüğünün yerine geçebilecek şekilde bilinç sözcüğünün kullanımının tarihi, felsefî ve bilimsel zemini açıklanmıştır. Bu bağlamda da bilimsel dünya görüşü arttıkça ruh yerine bilincin kullanılmaya başlandığı meselesi üzerinde durulmuştur.
